Well, isn't this a night of whole numbers. K-lite just released v5.0.0 and VLC media player 0.8 is no more; the developers of the open source, free software media player just released version 1.0.0.

What does it support and how does it compare to VLC media player 0.8?

Nexuiz's Ingame Video Card Benchmark Test

Video Card Benchmark Test

(This is actually a little note for myself as I keep forgetting the command.)

Here's how to load Nexuiz's ingame video card benchmark test:

1. Launch the game.

2. Press SHIFT + ESC.

3. In the console that drops down, type "timedemo demos/demo1" without the quotes.


4. Press enter. At the end of the timedemo, the game will display its minimum, average, and maximum frames per second.

IMO, this is one of the best Quake 2-based freeware downloadable PC games.

V2.0 of Lightsmark, a Video Card Benchmark Test, Now Out

Version 2.0 of Lightsmark, a video card benchmark test, has been out for quite some time. This video card benchmark test is a

"multiplatform benchmark/demo with REALTIME GLOBAL ILLUMINATION and PENUMBRA SHADOWS"

according to the creator's site.

I have been using Lightsmark for several months in my video card benchmark tests so it's quite exciting to hear about this new version.

However, it is worth noting that the creator also stated that

"faster engine (up to 3x higher fps, so scores are different)"

so comparing video card driver performances will be inaccurate to say the least if a user compares version 2 results with older version 1 results.
